Character NAME: Noel Kreiss
Canon & MEDIUM: Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Video game)
Canon PULL-POINT: The very end of the game. *Highlight for spoilers* After he, Serah and Mog have returned to 500AF after the final confrontation with Caius in Valhalla. After Serah has died in his arms, and he with Hope watched the world be flooded with chaos and essentially join with Vahalla. *End spoilers*
Character AGE: 18
Character ABILITIES: Back before the start of FFXIII-2, Noel was a Hunter, raised to not only work in groups toward a common goal, but going it alone when he had no other choice. As such he's got quite a highly trained ability for combat. That of course doesn't mean he's perfect, and throughout the game he's shown to need improvement, and move toward improving himself through his sort of self appointed duty of protecting Serah.
Aside from just the normal physical sorts of moves, Noel has skills in a set of classes in the game. He starts out with the roles of Commando (largely physical attacks), Ravager (magical attacks), and Sentinel (defensive skills). He also gains access to Medic, Synergist (buffs), and Saboteur (debuffs). He is most proficient with the roles Commando, Synergist and Medic, alongside Sentinel as a good backup.
His strength and HP stats are both high, leading him more often than not to be a fighter on the front lines of battle. His magic stat, as well as his cast speed are far overshadowed by Serah's, and he is at his most useful when he leaves those things to someone much more proficient. That said, his low magic stat does not keep him from being a good combat healer if necessary, and he gains some of the better healing spells available to the Medic role.
Aside from the different role abilities, Noel has access to the unique ability Meteor Javelin. A strong, multi-hit attack based in the Commando role.
Character HISTORY: 39 paragraphs of history here at the wikia.
Character PERSONALITY: One of the best ways to summarize just who Noel is as a person is said in the game itself, "Born at the end of days, you understand the true value of life." This value is something that shapes every bit of the core of Noel's character. He wont kill anyone, and he wont just sit back and watch someone die when there's something he can do about it. Before the game even starts, and even in the game itself, he has to watch people he loves die, people he can't protect either because he isn't strong enough, or because it's simply beyond his power. These events shaped him into an incredibly determined and protective person, looking after Serah even when she was still such a stranger to him because, even if Lightning hadn't sent him to find her, when he did there was no way he could sit back and watch something happen to her.
And he never does sit back and watch. He is very active in protecting her, putting himself between her and something even stronger than he is at times because he just wont sit back when he can do something, however little it may be. This courage to put himself in the way of hostility isn't only limited to battles of course, and it's not always for the sake of protecting only one person, or a person at all. Noel will do what he can in order to save the future of the world, keep it from becoming the empty place without people that he knows, even if he has to stand and take the anger of people who don't believe him. But even when dealing with their anger, anger he can't exactly say is misplaced, he isn't one to become angry in response, instead remaining calm and sure of himself, sure that he's doing the right thing.
That said, he knows that even the most truthful stories are hard to believe without information to back them up, he might have been just as skeptical if he were put in their position. As such he isn't against sharing his knowledge of the history of the world, sharing his experiences in what happens at the end of days. With some exceptions of course. No matter how much he wants to be believed, how much he knows that for the sake of the world he has to make them believe him, some things are too personal to share even toward that goal.
The small details that he holds back are perhaps some of the most important to him. His memories of being unable to stop something from happening, stop people from leaving him, stop people from leaving the world forever. His primary motivation in all of this, beyond even his motivation to create a future that has people in it, are the people who left him behind. One in particular he wants to bring back. These memories are things he wont let just anyone pry from him, are something he wont just give in to telling someone who can't leave well enough alone. The prying alone is enough to make even normally calm Noel frustrated.
But that isn't all that can trigger frustration out of him. He who keeps his calm in the face of anger, loses that calm in the face of a "hero". For if there is one thing Noel simply can't stand, it's the type of person who claims they can protect everyone, yet they go off and leave behind and hurt the people most important to them, the people they are the most important to. Serah's fiancee Snow is one of those people, Snow who left behind Serah in order to find her sister, to protect their friends Fang and Vanille who were holding up Cocoon in crystal sleep. It isn't his goals that got to Noel of course, but that Snow left Serah and all the rest of his friends behind.
Noel had been in their positions once, left behind by people he loved, either by their death or otherwise. He can't accept people who willingly make the choice to leave people behind to feel the same pain he did. This sort of feeling, not wanting others to feel the same pain, is only a small example of his kind heart. A heart that doesn't want people to know the sadness he's used to that wants a happy, thriving world. Even if the future becomes one where he is never born, he can deal with that, because he doesn't think anyone deserves such a sad life.
He is far from depressed, however. Even with a past like that one, Noel is a rather cheerful person, making the best of the time given to him. Whether that's by offering Serah--or anyone else they encounter encouragement, or making a witty comment or two regarding less than ideal situations. Because even with such a serious situation to correct, they're getting so see so many places that they weren't likely to get the chance to see in their lifetimes. It's something to make the best of, to not let the circumstances of their visit to the times and locations spoil.
» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: Noel's set of two swords seen here that he wields in his canon, with the smaller sheathing on the larger one.
Chosen SKILLSET: Noel is definitely a fighter, and he's someone who would rather go out on missions than be left behind. I can't guarantee he'll kill anyone, it's more likely he wont, but he is a very protective sort and can more than hold his own.

First PERSON: [The video switches on, the camera held at an odd angle focused somewhere over Noel's shoulder before it settles flat with the click of it being settled down, bringing into frame a face with a fairly uncertain expression.]
I wonder if these people have any idea what they're getting into, interfering in the past to change how things are now. Maybe I shouldn't judge without knowing just what this place is like, or why they think doing this is the right thing.
[He frowns here.]
But changing the past so that you're the ones in control instead of someone else doesn't sound like the kind of thing I want to help out with. What if the result ends up worse than what this place has now?
[With a shake of his head his expression softens a little.] I'm not saying that's how it is, but without all of the information I just can't help them do this. So... can anyone tell me more about why the Initiative wants to change everything?
[Even having been showed how to use one of these things, asking it questions is still not a comfortable thing, and it shows on his face as his hand comes into the frame to switch the video off.]
Third PERSON: After his arrival, following in a sort of shock behind a woman he might not even be able to point out in a crowd if he were asked to later, Noel had finally been left on his own. Left with far too many questions and not enough trust in him to ask them. Sure he'd been a time traveler before, hopping through gates to change the future, but that future had been nothing like this. At least there were people here. People who were living, if not completely happy, at least what looked a lot like what he would consider to be pretty good lives. So then why? What was the point in going back into the past to change the future of a whole world if it was only the desire of a few? Was there a good reason for any of this, or did they just want to change for their own selfish reasons?
He clenched his hand tightly around the key he'd been given as he followed along after a rather quiet guide, his thoughts whirling about, tearing apart everything he'd been told, looking for anything that told him they were lying to him and that helping them would be a bad idea. It wasn't that he didn't want to trust them either, oh no. He'd been through the whole business of not being believed, having to explain himself to people who thought he was just some kind of con artist. He wanted to believe that these people were trying to do the right thing for everyone.
But if Serah had managed to trust him without good reason or proof he had been telling the truth, even he had to admit that his story was pretty hard to believe, maybe he just had to give this place a chance? At any rate, what choice did he have? He was pretty far from home, that's for sure, and he hadn't seen anyone familiar yet. He would just have to hope for the best for now, and trust that he could get himself out of anything that was thrown at him.
